Terms of service

Legal

The terms you agree to by using Umbra Orbital. In force since [ DATE ].

[ DRAFT — not reviewed by a lawyer. ] Every amber placeholder below needs a real answer before this page is published, and the whole thing should be read by someone qualified before you take money from anyone. Delete this box when that’s done.

1. Who runs this

Umbra Orbital is operated by [ legal name — company or sole trader ], tax ID [ NIF/CIF ], registered at [ address ]. You can reach us at [ contact email ] or through the contact page.

2. What the service is

We run an online platform that hosts multiplayer bridge simulation sessions, keeps a persistent character for each player, and publishes the missions and setting those sessions take place in.

The game client itself, Empty Epsilon, is separate free and open source software made by other people and distributed under its own licence. We don’t sell it and we don’t own it. Where no official build exists for a platform, we may compile one from its public source and share it with players, under the terms of that same licence.

3. Your account

One account per person. Give us an email address that works — it’s how we reach you about your games and your subscription. You’re responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your password to yourself; accounts aren’t for sharing or selling. You must be at least [ minimum age ] to register.

4. This is a beta

The service is under active development and provided as it is. Features change, sessions occasionally fail, and the servers will sometimes be down while we fix or update something. We’ll be straight with you about it, but we can’t promise uptime. [ Decide and state: can campaign progress be reset during the beta, yes or no? ]

5. Subscriptions and payment

A free account lets you fly the open missions. The campaign subscription is what unlocks the persistent storylines. During the beta it costs nothing.

When paid subscriptions begin: the price and billing period are shown before you confirm, subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time from My account — you keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for. [ Refund and cancellation policy, and how the EU right of withdrawal for digital services applies. ] Payments are handled by our payment provider; we never see or store your card details.

6. How to behave

Voice chat and room chat are shared spaces: harassment, hate speech and abuse aren’t welcome and will cost you your account. Don’t attack or overload our servers, don’t try to break the game’s rules through the back door, and don’t use the service for anything illegal. We can suspend or close an account that does.

7. Who owns what

The setting, the missions, the text, the art and the platform are ours. Empty Epsilon belongs to its own authors. Your character’s progress is data we hold for you; it isn’t property and it can’t be sold or transferred. Recordings and streams of your own sessions are yours — post them, we’d like that.

8. Liability

We’re liable for what the law says we’re liable for, and no further. Nothing in these terms takes away the rights you have as a consumer. [ Have this clause written or checked properly — it’s the one that matters. ]

9. Ending it

You can close your account whenever you like by asking us [ or: point at the self-serve button, once there is one ]. We can close an account that breaks these terms, and we’ll tell you why unless there’s a good reason not to.

10. Changes, and which law applies

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we’ll tell subscribers by email before it takes effect. These terms are governed by the law of [ country ], and disputes go to the courts of [ city ] — without affecting any right you have to bring a claim where you live.
